There are many types of HPV. Most are harmless, but some can have more serious effects on the body.
The most serious kinds can cause several types of cancer. Some other types can cause genital warts.
The HPV vaccine used most in Australia, Gardasil, protects against the two most common HPV types which cause cancer (HPV 16, 18) as well as the two kinds that cause most genital warts (HPV 6, 11).
